COMPRESSIONISM

Solo Exhibition
236 Clark Dr
28 NOV 2024

The Compressionism exhibition presented a collection of 20 new works of art that continue the exploration of 2D images created by 3D processes.  These arch shaped formats provide a view to various landscape subjects through a portrait opening.

Compressionism is a cross section through a mass of colour, rather than an application of colour to a surface

Though painterly in appearance, no paint brushes were used to create this artwork; it was fabricated using trowels, chisels, knives, robotic drills, and belt sanders. On close inspection the marks of screwdrivers, routers and wrench bits can be discerned in many of the works.

Compressionism is interested in the dynamic geological processes that create stable landscape features

Mountains as slowly rolling waves of rock;
erupted, solidified, stratified, sheared, eroded

Soil as compacted layers of biomass
from countless seasons of changing foliage

Oceans as condensed clouds

Compressionism is landscape art in portrait format
Landscapes are pressed from the sides until vertical

The arched top of the artwork format makes reference to time: the arc of the sun that turns the clock and cycles seasons
