The Skating Fields series muses on a number of Canadian landscapes animated by ice skating. In the tradition of 16th and 17th century Dutch masters like Bruegel and Avercamp, each scene is marked by a unified ground of sky and ice that pushes the figures human activity forward in contrast.

Rideau I depicts the terminus of the 7.8km skateway on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa.
